Series I: Entering the Workforce

Series I: Entering the Workforce is designed to enhance your employability knowledge and skills, sometimes referred to as foundational knowledge and skills or job-readiness knowledge and skills. Employability knowledge and skills include the interpersonal and conceptual skills to secure employment and organizational culture fit.

Module 1: Personal SWOT Analysis for Career Planning

Analyze personal strengths, weaknesses, opportunities & threats for the purpose of career planning.

Module 2: Setting SMART Goals for Career Success

Set structured (specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, & time-bound) goals for career success.

Module 3.1: STAR Method for Resume Writing

Present your work experiences on your resume in a clear and concise manner by identifying and explaining your experiences in a situation, task, action and result (STAR) format.

Module 3.2: STAR Method for Behavioral Interviewing

Explain a prior work situation anecdotally, by providing details regarding the tasks required, the actions taken to achieve those tasks, & the results of the actions taken.

Module 4: The Power of the Informational Interview

Conduct a brief information gathering meeting for the purpose of investigating a job/career with a person working in that job/career.

Module 5: Creating Your 30 Second Pitch

Deliver a brief personal introduction that includes your career objective or the type of position you want.

Module 6: Effective Interviewing

Conduct a systematic, purposeful conversation, for the purpose showing an employer that you have the skills, background, & ability to do a job, as well as successfully fit into the company culture.

Module 7: Understanding the Impact of Culture in the Workplace

Understand the Three Levels of Culture: Artifacts, Espoused Values and Underlying Assumptions, as well as the four Types of culture: Clan, Adhocracy, Market, and Hierarchy. 

Module 8: Effective Job Offer Negotiation

Effectively conduct a detailed evaluation of all components of a formal job offer and upon completion of this evaluation, effectively conduct a negotiation on one or more of the job offer components that is not acceptable to you.

Series II: Operating as a Productive Team Member

The purpose of this series is to enhance your ability to work well with other team members during conversations, projects, meetings, or other collaborations. Productive team member skills include the interpersonal and conceptual skills that enable you to share data, raise problems, and address concerns, so the team can hammer out solutions.

Module 9: One-On-One Professional Communication

Understand and master the communication process through a several communication means, such the giving or exchanging of information, signals, or messages as by talk, gestures, or writing.

Module 10: High Performing Communication: Using the “Pinch/Crunch Model”

Communicate expectations, understand others, and discuss pinches (conflicts) for the purpose of reducing, managing and avoiding pinch escalation and eliminating a crunch (reconciliation under duress or resentful termination).  

Module 11: The Structure of Building Trust: “Trust Equation”

Understand and build trust through a structured trust equation that is supported by the components of words, actions, emotions and motives.

Module 12: Effective Problem Solving

Define a problem, determine the cause of the problem, identify, prioritize, select alternatives for a solution, and lastly to implement a solution.

Module 13: Making Effective Decisions

Identify a decision, gather relevant information, identify the alternatives, weigh the evidence, choose among alternatives, act on the decision, and review the decision.

Module 14: Action Planning: Using the Outcomes-Methods-Resources (OMR) Model

Use a structured backward-planning process for the purpose of setting and communicating clear inspiring outcomes, selecting and developing a detailed approach to achieve the outcomes, and selecting, gathering, and scheduling important resources (people, time, information, technology, material and money).

Module 15: The After-Action Review- Using the Corkscrew Analysis Process

Use a disciplined and structured action research process, to vigorously examine and critically learn whether an organization’s strategy, plan and execution delivered the results intended, so effective changes and improvements can be made.

Module 16: Managing Conflict Effectively

Design and execute effective strategies to minimize dysfunctions of conflict and enhance the constructive functions of conflict in order to enhance learning and effectiveness of an organization.

Module 17: Providing Constructive Feedback

Provide useful comments and suggestions, using a 7-step feedback format that contributes to  positive outcomes, a better work process or improved behaviors.

Series III: Operating as a Productive Team Leader

The purpose of this series is to enhance your ability to be an effective front-line leader who can earn the trust and respect of all team members, while strengthening total team performance and productivity. Productive team leaders possess the interpersonal and conceptual skills that help team members grow, develop, and become leaders.

Module 18: Understanding Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the Workplace

Understand the differences between Diversity, Inclusion and Equity in the workplace, as well as the understanding that a diversity hiring program will only succeed when it is supplemented with the practices of equity and inclusion.

Module 19: Getting Results Through Productive Team Meetings

Execute a disciplined 4-step meeting cycle that will effectively design the meeting; conduct the meeting; carry out between-meeting assignments; collect information to design the next meeting: and achieve the meeting goals, while ensuring the progress of the team.

Module 20: How to Delegate Work Effectively

Delegate effectively by determining what to delegate, choosing the right person to delegate to, clarifying the desired results, clearly defining the employee’s responsibility and authority, and establishing follow up meetings/touch points.

Module 21: Understanding the Stages of Group Development

Effectively understand and manage the 4 stages of group development: forming, storming, norming, performing.

Module 22: Becoming a High-Performance Work Team

Effectively understand and build a High-Performance Work Team (HPWT), a small number of people with complementary skills who are committed to a common purpose, performance goals, and approach for which they hold themselves mutually accountable

Module 23: Managing vs. Leading: A Difference in Context

Understand the dimensions of management and leadership, and why both are important to becoming a high performing leader.

Series IV: Operating as a Productive Business Unit Leader

The purpose of this series is to enhance your ability to be an effective operations leader who can lead through others by leveraging strong collaborative and facilitative skills. Productive business leaders possess the interpersonal and conceptual skills to enhance organizational culture, foster continuous improvement and drive business growth.

Module 24: Understanding the Skills Approach to Leadership & Style Approach to Leadership

Understand the “Three-Skills” approach to leadership, which is about leader capabilities vs. the “Style” approach to leadership, which is about two kinds of leader behaviors.

Module 25: Understanding Transformational & Transactional Leadership

Distinguish the difference between transformational leadership, which fits the needs of today’s work groups/teams and transactional leadership, which simply focuses on a leader/follower exchange.

Module 26: Using the Human Performance Technology (HPT) Model to Improve Performance

Use a systematic approach to improve productivity, which relies on the steps of performance analysis, cause analysis, intervention selection, intervention implementation, evaluation, and measurement.

Module 27: Planning & Managing Projects: Using the PDCA Cycle

Use “The Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) Cycle”, a useful tool that can help your team solve problems much more efficiently, while stimulating continuous improvement of people and processes.  

Module 28: The Power of Vision, Purpose, Mission, Core Values & Guiding Principles

Enable the organization’s key leadership team to understand the Big Five Strategy Elements that form the foundation for the more detailed organizations strategy.

Module 29: Understanding the Impact of Strategic Leadership Planning

Enable the organization’s key leadership team to develop a comprehensive strategy that will guide the organization towards becoming a high performing organization, achieving unparalleled results.  

Module 30: Leading Change & Transformation in the Workplace

Enable the organization’s key leadership team to use a 3-Stage/7-Step planned change model to effect change or transformation in the organization.
